Join the Southwest Food Coalition – Make a Difference in Your Community!
Are you passionate about food justice and ensuring everyone has access to fresh, healthy, and culturally relevant food? The Southwest Food Coalition is looking for dedicated individuals, organizations, and community members to join us in our mission to fight food insecurity and build a stronger, more resilient food system in Southwest Denver!
Eligibility: Any agency or resident who lives in or serves the Southwest Metro Denver area and is committed to improving our food system and addressing food insecurity. Examples include: residents of Southwest Metro Denver, urban farms and gardens, food pantries, restaurants, retail grocery and corner stores, local food producers, residents who utilize food pantries, schools, and churches. Members must be committed to shared values and able to remain active in Coalition meetings and projects (details below).
Benefits: As a member of the Coalition, partners will have access to:
The Community Advisory board, which is made up of community members that can help you with better and more participant-centered program design
The Food Hub - delivery of food from Food Bank of the Rockies to warehouse in SW Denver
A truck and driver
Local food procurement and group purchasing
Collaborative grant applications
Connection to regional food partners
Networking and support:
Sharing of resources (food, storage space, volunteers)
Training and learning opportunities
Technical assistance and capacity building
Connections to and networking opportunities with other food pantries
Expectations: All members of our Coalition are asked to commit to:
Engaging with other members around challenging topics related to hunger in Denver
Sharing updates with the Coalition about changes to your program
Being a liaison between your communities and the Southwest Food Coalition on hunger trends and barriers to healthy food access
Application Process: Groups/residents who are interested in joining our Coalition will meet with our membership committee to get a better understanding of our work, answer any questions and help determine fit. The membership committee will introduce the group/resident to the Coalition and current members will have the opportunity to give feedback. New members must fill out a commitment form.
